The Six Key Principles of Animal Naturopathy
Like naturopathy for humans, animal naturopathy abides by six key principles:
Do no harm: the intervention must not weaken the animal's natural capacity to heal itself.
Focus on prevention: the aim is to prevent rather than cure and put all the building blocks in place for the animal to maintain optimal health.
Treat the cause rather than suppress the symptoms: this is one of the main differences between animal naturopathy and conventional allopathic veterinary medicine.
Adopt a holistic approach and treat the animal as a whole: it is crucial to consider the animal's individuality and its living environment.
Understand the self-healing power of the body: every being possesses the elements required to live in good health.
Communicate and educate: encourage owners to take personal responsibility, educate them on their role, and show them the benefits of a lifestyle change.
Originally, the meaning of the word "disease" was that the body was ill at ease or out of balance. The term now refers to a set of symptoms. The word frightens people and implies that only a qualified doctor can treat and cure the disease using invasive measures, like surgery or drug-based treatments.
In reality, there is no such thing as disease in the literal sense, but only the symptom of an exhausted body. The more aggressive the symptom, the more significant the imbalance in the body.
Animal Naturopathy & Veterinary Medicine
Animal naturopaths are not trained and are not veterinarians. There is an important distinction between the two. Veterinarians deal with treating disease, and their veterinary medicine studies teach them how to perform surgery and use pharmaceutical products.
Veterinarians learn how to identify and diagnose using modern technology, then prescribe the necessary medication to suppress the animal's symptoms, as suggested by anti-inflammatories and anti-biotics. Therefore, the conventional notions of health and treatment are different from how they are understood in natural medicine.
Definition of Animal Naturopathy
Animal Naturopathy is a holistic therapy that focuses on the animal's health without drugs. Naturopathy is based on the premise that nature governs health and its laws; balance between species, natural nutrition, pure water, fresh unpolluted air, sun exposure, rest, and sleep.
When the body deviates from this balance, naturopathy uses natural remedies like plants, herbs, essential oils, and minerals, to help it recover by itself. This is known as the body's self-healing mechanism.
What Does Holistic Mean?
Rather than treating disease as a singular entity, natural healthcare regards the entire body, including the mind, to help the body fight disease. This approach uses nutrition, massage, homeopathy, and energy therapies.
A holistic treatment is designed to treat the entire body, as opposed to conventional medicine, which deals primarily with clinical symptoms. The holistic approach treats the animal's disease by stimulating its immune system. In contrast, the conventional approach tends to combat and suppress the symptoms without seeking the root of the problem, which often leads to relapse.
Two Core Principles of Naturopathy:
Disease is an imbalance of vital energy
Symptoms are a manifestation of an emotional change
